Dentistry Clinic at HomeGround
Our dental clinic provides free dental care to people who would otherwise go without - and we need your help to continue growing this service

Be part of a life-changing dentistry clinic
Launched in July 2025 and led by Dr Hugh Trengrove, our clinic delivers essential dental treatments to people experiencing homelessness, hardship, trauma and complex health needs.
Based within HomeGround on Hobson Street, this is the first service of its kind in Auckland, and a rare opportunity to give back to your community.
Our volunteer team provides a range of clinically meaningful care, including comprehensive oral examinations, radiographic assessment and treatment planning, management of dental pain and infections, simple and surgical extractions, root canal treatment for anterior teeth and premolars, and removable prosthodontic services such as complete and partial dentures.
We are looking for more people to join our multi-disciplinary team:
- Registered dentists
- Dental Assistants (DAs)
- Other dental support roles

Why volunteer with us
This is an opportunity to apply your skills in one of the most rewarding clinical environments in Auckland. You'll work alongside dedicated professionals contributing to the care of people the system hasn't always reached.
Our brand new clinic is housed within The Auckland City Mission's Calder Health Centre and is equipped with modern technology throughout including a Belmont Phot-x IIs LCD screen wall-mount x-ray, Acteon XMP 2D OPG, Clesta II Pedestal chair and a fully appointed cart package meaning you can focus on delivering quality care without compromise.
You choose how you help:
This is a Monday to Friday volunteer role. Commit only to the shifts that suit you. Volunteer as often or as occasionally as your schedule allows. Join a supportive team of volunteer clinicians and Mission staff who understand the realities of busy professional lives. We can be flexible around your schedule.

How it works
Care is completely free for patients, supported by WINZ dental grants and generous donor funding. We have referral pathways to charitable specialist colleagues for surgical needs beyond our current scope.
Kaimahi identify and refer clients, with a Dental Assistant reviewing each referral and coordinating appointments. Our volunteer team then come up with a plan to deliver meaningful dental care for our clients.
Special acknowledgements to:
The Clare Foundation for funding to establish this service; BlackRock Foundation for their support with dentures; MSD for their ongoing funding and the Auckland Dental Association & the New Zealand Dental Association for their invaluable guidance and support.
