Join us in making a difference in peoples’ lives

We have a range of opportunities from working in our community dining kitchen Haeata, packing food parcels, helping out in our op-shops, and sorting second hand donations. Our Christmas volunteering spots are filled, but we’re always looking for more people to join us in making a difference in peoples’ lives so, to see what other volunteering opportunities are available see below.

Volunteer Opportunities

Individual Opportunities

Breakfast Service at Haeata (Hobson Street, CBD) Monday – Sunday (2 Shifts) 7.30am – 11.00am & 8.00am – 11.30am.

  • Activities include: Prepping and serving food, general kitchen duties such as dishes and cleaning, topping up supplies and tidying dining area.

Food Service Assistant (Boston Road, Grafton) Tuesday – Friday (2 Shifts) 9.00am – 12.00pm & 12.30pm – 3.30pm.

  • Assisting our food team to pack food parcels and distribute to clients.
  • Activities include: Packing food parcels, picking orders for clients, stocking shelves, tidying and organising workstations and areas, light gardening and maintenance, breaking down of boxes. Reasonable level of physical fitness required, some heavy lifting up to 20kgs.

Donation Sorting (Symonds Street, Upper CBD) Tuesday – Saturday (2 Shifts) 9.00am – 12.00pm & 12.00pm – 3.00pm.

  • Work in our newest retail space on Symonds Street, helping to organise donated goods.
  • Activities include: Sort and prepare donated clothing and household goods, organise distribution to Op Shops. You may also be required to steam and hang clothing, ticket items and sort other in kind donations. If you’re interested in retail and fashion, this is a great option for you.

Retail – Op Shops (Glen Innes / K-Road / Symonds Street / Federal Street Pop-Up). Days and shifts by negotiation.

  • Activities include: Work alongside our team to help sort clothes, display and rotate goods for sale, maintain a clean and tidy store, assist with any other tasks as required.

Individual Registrations – Members of the public looking to volunteer on an ongoing basis.

** The minimum volunteer requirement for individuals is a commitment of 2 shifts per month for 6 months.

Can I do a one-off volunteer shift?

Unfortunately we do not offer one off opportunities at this time

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers must be aged 18 years or over.

Can I volunteer for Christmas?

Our Christmas volunteering spots are filled this year!

Corporate Opportunities

We welcome groups of up to 5 people. Please note that we are unable to offer opportunities for larger groups.

Food Service Assistant (Boston Road, Grafton) Groups of up to 5 (availability dependent).

Food Service Assistant (NZ Food Network, Penrose) Ideal for groups of up to 15

  • Thursday’s 9.30am – 12.30pm or 1.00pm – 4.00pm
  • Fridays 9.30am – 12.30pm
  • Activities include packing food parcels, tidying and organising workstations and areas, assembling boxes, breaking down of boxes, taping boxes. Reasonable level of physical fitness required, some heavy lifting up to 20kgs.
  • *This opportunity is only available until 20th December.

Donation Sorting (Symonds Street, Upper CBD) Individuals or pairs.

  • Tuesday – Saturday (2 Shifts) 9.00am – 12.00pm & 12.00pm – 3.00pm.
  • Work in our newest retail space and sorting centre on Symonds Street to help sort and prepare donated clothing and household  for people in need and distribution to our op shops, you may also be required to steam and hang clothing, ticket items and sort other in kind donations. Good eye to detail is required and a keen interest and understanding in fashion would be an advantage.

Breakfast Service (Hobson Street, CBD) Individuals, pairs or groups of 3 – 5 (availability dependent).

  • Monday – Sunday –  7.30am – 11.30am.
  • You will preparing food for serving, food service, general kitchen duties such as dishes and cleaning before, during and after service. stacking of shelves, topping up supplies, maintaining cleanliness in the dining room and back of house areas during service

FAQ

How do I register my organisation?

Please enter your first name & last name into the FIRST NAME Field, and enter your organisations name into the LASTNAME Field. We recommend that you choose a generic username and password that you’d be happy to share with members of your teams who are likely to book opportunities in the future. Our preference is one account holder per organisation.

What happens once I've registered?

Once you have registered there are some backend processes that need to be actioned. We will review and process your application as soon as possible. Once complete, we will send further  instructions on how to view availability and book volunteer opportunities. Many thanks for taking the first step to volunteer your time with us!
