Subject: Food Relief Funding
Tēnā koe [Name of Local MP]
I am writing to express my strong support for the food relief work carried out by Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai.
I recently learned of the ongoing food crisis in Aotearoa and was alarmed to hear that last year the Mission provided approximately 40,000 boxes of food to individuals and families unable to afford sufficient, nutritious food.
While it was also heartening to learn that many people generously donate to support this work, the Mission also requires government funding to meet the level. However, I understand that organisations providing food relief across the country, including the Mission, no longer receive guaranteed government funding to support this critical service.
The difference between having enough food and going without is significant. When people have access to enough good, nutritious food, they can focus on their work, their family, and their wellbeing. But without enough food, individuals and families face increased stress, poor health, and even greater challenges in overcoming the barriers that keep them trapped in hardship. Access to food is about more than just survival – it’s about giving people the opportunity to thrive.
I ask you to act on behalf of all those struggling to access the food they need to survive and thrive. I respectfully request that you raise this issue with Minister Upston and advocate for the release of further government funds for the provision of food, so the Mission, along with other social service agencies, can continue to provide vital food relief to those who need it most.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
